Cee Mister B Training Blog

Welcome to our CANTER SoCal blog. This has been an ongoing training clinic with celebrity trainer Karen Murdock doing the foundation training for our fabulous, Cee Mister B. Please visit PlayingWithLukas.com to see Karen's own celebrity horse, Lukas.

Karen will be a presenter at The Equine Affaire in Feb., and has also been invited to present at the Int'l Equestrian Festival in Kentucky, and the HITS show, among others!

Karen will continue as a training consultant for all CANTER adopters! She and Lukas continue to work hard as our spokesmen, and bring awareness to the other ex-racehorses needing homes.

Mister B is available for adoption!! We are looking at applications now, but won't make a decision for a little while.
Email CanterSocal@gmail.com for more info!!

Mister B is continuing his training at our new CANTER Barn at Rising Phoenix Equestrian Center in Bonsall, Ca., with trainer Keri Homer, and our own CANTER trainer, Athena.

Athena will continue to update this blog with Mister B's progress, so stay tuned to follow our rock star horse, Cee Mister B.

We think he has fabulous potential for a junior rider!
It will be one lucky adopter who gets Mister B!

Check out our new Zenyatta/CANTER fund raiser T Shirts that will be available starting Sunday the 29th at Hollywood Park!

Cee Mister Bee Update

Mister B finished his training with Karen, and has moved to our CANTER barn,  Rising Phoenix Equestrian Center.  Karen did a wonderful job and Mister B is working under saddle beautifully.
He has great energy, perfect manners, and is a stunning mover.  Thank you, Karen!   Your training was priceless!   He is so lucky to have been started by celebrity trainer, Karen Murdock, horse whisperer supreme!

BTW,  Karen is going to be a presenter at the Equine Affaire in Feb. and has been invited to present at the
International Equestrian Festival 2010 in Kentucky,  the HITS show,  and many more.  Karen is available to all CANTER adopters as a consultant!

So now Mister B is continuing his training with Rising Phoenix's  Keri Homer,  and our wonderful CANTER trainer, Athena.   Everyone who meets Mister B just falls in love with him!

Because of his disposition, we think he will make a perfect horse for a junior rider,  and our plans now are to get him ready for a few local shows and promote him that way.   We don't know which discipline he will enjoy the most,  but in the next 30 days we'll see how he does.

He is such a happy guy when he's working and learning new things.    Athena rode him for the first time on the 25th,  and I have a video to post soon.    Athena said he feels wonderful,  and she will be updating his progress on this blog.

Because Mister B is such a rock star horse we feel he has wonderful potential for a junior rider,  and we will be looking for someone who can enjoy him in a forever home.

We get inquiries for him constantly,  but  just like all of our horses,  we take our time to find just the right home for each one.

Check out Athena's new blog where she will post photos, videos, and updates on our other CANTER Cuties in training.   We have 3 drop dead gorgeous chestnut mares who are showing great promise, and are progressing so well in training.   Two are Seattle Slew granddaughters,  and all are fabulous horses.

Irish Dream and Mystifing are sisters,  and Song of Dreams completes the triplets!

Mr. B

Mr. B continues to improve - his liberty work is getting more steady and he shows much willingness and happy cooperation.  His under saddle is coming along - he sure is alot better to the left!  I am helping him learn to bend and turn - at the halt, I'll hold (not pull!) gently til I feel the slightest give and let the rein go looser so he gets an immediate reward, often stroke his neck and tell him what a good boy he is (when he is soft).  I am encouraging him to stretch his neck forward and down, and then this allows his walk to open up and his back to start to swing and his hind legs to come more under his belly.  The trot is started - as his balance and understanding improve, so will his gaits.  Thank you for your interest in Mr. B - I hope you're enjoying him as much as I am!  Karen

Mister B

Hi Everyone,

Mr. B is doing great!  We have been working on the smile, nodding yes and free lunging around me at the walk and trot.  This week we added having him put his head down to stretch and relax his muscles and he is catching on quickly.  He spends all morning eating in the sunshine and in the afternoon we play and he gets groomed.   He is very sweet and friendly and loves the attention.  I am so glad that Bonnie saved him.

Hello All!

I've just changed to a new template which I hope is more user friendly for commenting.

Can you do me a big favor and post a comment so I can see how it's working?

Karen is doing an awesome job with Mister B,  and he is truly an awesome horse,  so I hope to have questions for Karen and this forum for her to answer everyone.

She is getting hundreds of emails a night and if she can answer them on our blog it will help everyone.

I also figured out how to set her up as an author now,  so we are getting there!!

Talk to Karen directly in the 'Contributors' section, and the Playing With Lukas link!!

Mounting Mister B

Mister B videos October 9, 2009

Can you believe this great guy?   He stands so quietly for Karen to mount,  he is very eager to do everything she asks,  and he is less than two weeks from his last race!

Everyone who sees Mister B just LOVES him.   What a lucky adopter who gets Mister B.

We are starting to look at applications for him now,  but won't make a decision until further along in his training.   Go to CanterUsa.org to fill out an application and be sure to forward a copy to Bonnie at
CanterSocal@gmail.com

Or email me with questions, info about yourself, etc.

You can see how relaxed and calm Mister B is,  while only being approximately 10 days from his last race.
Karen tacks him up with no help,  no crosstie, just a relaxed setting.  You can see from Mister B's expression how eager he is to learn something new.

Exciting Day!

Hi All,

Karen rode our boy today.   She said he was just perfect,  and sweet as ever.   Wow,  just about a week from his last race and he has no problem with a quiet ride.   All he needs is a couple hundred pounds and he will even more stunning.   We're working on that as we speak!

Karen and I went to Barrett's yearling sale yesterday and handed out cards and flyers about Lukas and CANTER.   There were lots of gorgeous yearlings leaving for new racing homes.

Lukas is still getting calls from the media and more awareness is coming for the other ex-racehorses.

Also,  I think I have the comment area figured out now!

Questions for Karen

Hello All!

Please help us spread the word about Karen's generous donation of training for CANTER's  wonderful new horse,  Mister B.   He will be adopted to a lucky new owner after he enjoys 2-3 months training with Karen.   His adoption fee will allow us to have  more horses benefit from Karen's training.

So ask her your questions and learn her very unique methods.   It is so fascinating to see them work with every horse.   Mister B is learning faster than most,  because he is very smart,  and also because he has no issues to re-train first.

Ask her about humming as a tool.

Mister B Day 4

Wow,  everyone who sees Mister B has nothing but amazement for him.   If you'd like to watch his last race,  go to CalRacing, com   and look at Sept. 28th, Race 5 at Fairplex.   Cee Mister B certainly stands out in the crowd!

This boy is so happy and calm and loving his new life already!   Nothing spooks him,  and as you'll see in the videos from today he is following Karen at liberty,  free lunging around her,  and just focused on pleasing her.

Don't forget to let me know if you have interest in adopting Mister B. He will be available in 2-3 months

Mister B Day 3

Check out Mister B as he looked in his racing career.    As one fan called him,   "He is Mister BeeeUtiful!!".    Although his last race was September 28th,  he is already working with Karen and learning new skills.    She said he has already exceeded her every expectation,  and she is just flabbergasted by him.    He is following her, free lunging around her, coming when called,  gone for walks around the property and saw nothing that spooked him or worried him.    He is completely happy and loving life!

Karen and I both are so highly impressed with Mister B,  and you can watch him blossom through this blog.  I'm going tomorrow to make videos of his sessions and will post them tomorrow night.

Don't forget,  this amazing horse will be available for adoption in 2-3 months.   Anyone interested needs to start the approval process as we will have many applications for him.   The lucky person will be determined further into his training.

Ask Karen questions about her methods using the blog postings,   and she can answer for all to see.

Also,   please go to CanterUsa.org/California and make a donation to the Lukas account to help pay for Mister B's board and care.   Karen is generously donating her training,  but we do need donations to pay for his feed, farrier, vet, etc.

Mister B Day 2

Check out the videos:

www.youtube.com

Karen lets Mister B hang out and enjoy a little sunshine before he starts his lessons.

Use this blog to ask her questions about how she gets the horse to focus on her so quickly.

Karen says the horses 'learn how to learn',  and then become happy to do everything she asks of them.
They just love their lessons with Karen.  It seems as if they are happily playing,  while absorbing new
things to build on at the next session.

She also likes to take them out and work with them 6 times a day for just short sessions.

Mister B has no issues or vices to un-train,  so he will be able to start right in with his new skill training.

Can you believe he just ran the last race of his career on Monday, Sept. 28th?    Without even needing time to relax,  he is so ready to play with Karen!  Remember,  playing is learning.

Cee Mister B's first day with CANTER SoCal

Today, September 29th, 2009,  I went to see a horse who was retiring at Santa Anita race track.
The minute I saw Cee Mister B,  I just knew it was meant to 'B' !   He was meant to be our first CANTER SoCal horse to be trained by Karen Murdock.

Karen is an amazing trainer.  She uses her quiet voice and little else, to train horses of all ages, personalities, and talents to be the best they can be, and to be your partner for life!

I cannot wait to begin this journey and share the progress along the way with our followers.

I am so grateful that Karen is generously donating her time,  and by sharing Lukas with the world, she is truly making a difference in the lives of thousands of retiring racehorses.

Here is Cee Mister B at Santa Anita:

So just like that,  I saw Mister B in the morning and he was delivered to Karen's in the afternoon by Chuck Erb,  who generously donated the haul for us.  Thank you Chuck and Stacy Erb!!

So we let him just settle in today.  And although he had just raced yesterday,  he walked into his new home very calmly.  He was interested in everything around him,  and everyone around just oohed and aahed over his beauty and flashy presence.

More to come as he starts working with Karen tomorrow!
